योग शब्द संस्कृत धातु 'युज' से निकला है, जिसका मतलब है व्यक्तिगत चेतना या आत्मा का सार्वभौमिक चेतना या रूह से मिलन। योग, भारतीय ज्ञान की पांच हजार वर्ष पुरानी शैली है । हालांकि कई लोग योग को केवल शारीरिक व्यायाम ही मानते हैं, जहाँ लोग शरीर को मोडते, मरोड़ते, खिंचते हैं और श्वास लेने के जटिल तरीके अपनाते हैं। यह वास्तव में केवल मनुष्य के मन और आत्मा की अनंत क्षमता का खुलासा करने वाले इस गहन विज्ञान के सबसे सतही पहलू हैं। योग विज्ञान में जीवन शैली का पूर्ण सार आत्मसात किया गया है|
